Just reposting the original project description that was circulated by Oliver:Evaluation of Social network tools for campus communications

IST is experimenting with Twitter, Facebook, and blogs as channels for communicating with students, faculty and staff.  The basic question is to understand how well these channels work for reaching different audiences and their effectiveness for different types of messages. The project might entail developing and running an experiment comparing the relative effectiveness of different channels.
