Sept 8 2011: The Command Line

Learn how to navigate using the command line, including file management commands and other common utilities. Learn about AFS permissions and locker software on Athena. Process management and input/output redirection will also be covered. Much of this class will be applicable to the command line on any operating system, including using the "Terminal" application on Mac OS X.

Sept 15 2011: Web Publishing on Athena

We'll cover what you can and can't do in your www/ directory on Athena, and how to get started with SIPB's scripts.mit.edu service.

Sept 22 2011: Dotfiles and Shell Customization

Learn about "dotfiles" which can be used to control a lot of customizations on Athena. Learn how to customize your shell and the basics of shell scripting.

The LaTeX typesetting language is a powerful language used to typeset anything from 4-page papers to hundred-page books. It is frequently used in the scientific community when authoring journal articles or whitepapers. Learn how to get started with LaTeX and where to go for more information.
