This is the autonomous kayak in Singapore that has been instrumented with an array of pressure sensors in the bow.

The kayak is equipped with:

  • 19 honeywell pressure sensors mounted in the bow
  • DVL
  • GPS
  • IMU
  • Compass
  • 2 onboard computers (ubuntu and windows xp)

Experiments to conduct, summer 2011

  • Purpose** Detection of flow separation at bow
    • Drag reduction during maneuvers
    • Characterization of pressure field in real operating conditions
  • Experiments to perform** still water tests
      • characterize pressure change across the bow for circular maneuvers at different speeds and circle radii
      • could be done in Pandan Reservoir
    • tow tests
      • at NUS pool?
      • reproduce Big Red constant angle of attack experiments
    • ocean trials
      • piggy back on the sea trials
      • straight line motion in area with oblique current
      • lawn mower waypoint navigation
      • straight line motion with waves and no current
  • Beyond Summer 2011
    • pressure feedback control of thruster for smart maneuvers
    • separation control?
    • object detection
  • No labels
