Ski School Scheduler

Group members:

Problem Statement

Currently, the ski school at Snowy Hills (pseudonym representing an actual small midwest ski area) has an application to manage instructors' schedules, but the current application lacks much of the desired functionality, such as allowing instructors to submit or change their own schedules online.

Our Ski School Scheduler application will address shortcomings with the original system by providing a user-friendly way for the ski school to keep track of its instructors' activities.  It will solve the problem of administrators having to enter and change all schedules by allowing instructors to submit and request changes to their own schedules online as long as they comply with certain time constraints as to when they are allowed to do so.  Supervisors will also have an easy way to view and print who is on the schedule for a particular day.  In addition, our program will solve the problem that the current system has of it being impossible to keep track of whether instructors missed shifts or attended required clinics by providing supervisors with a way to track other important information about the instructors, such as their attendance and clinic hours.  Finally, part of the interface will also allow the ski school director to post announcements and links to external websites (without having to edit HTML code) directed towards instructors to solve the problem that the ski school director can't currently post any information (and must instead use email) because he doesn't have the technical skills to edit the website.

Our application must be able to be easily learned by those with limited computer experience, since the ski school instructors vary widely in age and familiarity with computers.
