Overview

Renting cars is an important part of your job as a member of exec. Cars are a great way to escape the city of Boston and make it to open skies. MIT has a great gig with Budget Car Rental, making it pretty affordable for us to get cars. We also have a corporate policy with Avis Rentals. MIT's page on car rentals can be found here. The link directly to our corporate rental page is here. When you reserve the vehicles, you must decline all additional insurance options. MIT covers all of these already for free. How Many Cars?

The "Intermediate" class of vehicle is $39 per day and offers far more storage space than the only cheaper option, making it awesome for our use. Unfortunately it does not provide sufficient space for 6in diameter vehicles. These will either need to ride on laps or you will need to rent an SUV. Reserve the cars from 8am Saturday to 8am Sunday for a normal launch.

Picking Up the Cars

To pick up the cars all the drivers should meet at the car rental location (Usually 350 Massachusetts Ave). Bring the team Travel Card. All drivers will need their state issued Driver's License. Renting the cars takes about 25 minutes. Early in the morning there is usually a line. Arriving before the location opens is usually beneficial. Only the people who are the assigned drivers for the vehicle can drive them and be covered by our insurance.

Returning the Cars

The cars will normally be returned late Saturday. Take the Keys, Rental Folder (with miles, parking spot, and gas level), and the parking voucher and set them in the box by the stairs by the entrance to Star Market in the garage. This means you don't have to get up Sunday morning. Normally the gas should be full when you return the vehicle.
