On January 12, 2010, Haiti experienced its worst earthquake in over 200 years. The country was devastated with an original quake of magnitude 7.0 and 30 subsequent aftershocks of magnitude of 4.5 or higher over the next day.The United Nations estimates that 50,000 people have lost their lives as a result of this natural disaster.
